Inspirational Music Video......

I thought this video had a very strong narrator which worked in this case very effectively. It breaks the Andrew Goodwin theory as there aren't many shots of the band to create an indie image, however the video did contain a lot of lip syncing and close ups of the lead singer/narrator alone which helped create a star image. The video does however, adhere to Andrew Goodwin's theory of having visual links between lyrics in the video, as when  the protagonist sings 'Animal' we see shots of him surrounded by dead animals ( the fridge with butchers meat hanging from the ceiling).
The filming is executed brilliantly, the rule of thirds is followed frequently e.g. the long shot were the protagonist stands out in the rain next to the car. Low key lighting is used consistently in the video as well both as it conforms with the forms and conventions of this genre of music and to foreshadow unfortunate events which take place in the music video, it also contributes to creating a dark and mysterious atmosphere. we also se lots of eye line matches between the protagonist and the girl in throughout the music video, for example- around 1.51 into the video we see a midshot of him in the rain looking up at the girls window, the camera then cuts to a shot of the girl naked looking into the mirror. This concept also conforms to Laura Mulveys male gaze theory as the girl is constantly shown in minimal clothing to attract more male viewers, e.g.- the aerial shot of the girl lying half-naked on her bed.
