Kate Nash - Foundations
We were shown this video on Friday's lesson, I personally thought that the concept of the song and video were quite cliche and cheesy, however it was a cheesy video done brilliantly with original visuals and symbolisms, e.g. the toothbrushes and the socks. The shot of their feet under the table was also quite effective as it tells us about the state of couples relationship in a single shot. Like Andrew Goodwins Theory it links the lyrics to visual and the narrative lip syncs and stars in the video which adhears to his theory for this particular 'POP' genre. The editing is also well done where toward the end the objects e.g. (toothbrushes, watches etc.) separate with the beat of the music. This music video fallows Andrew Goodwin's theory as it has visuals which link directly with the lyrics, e.g. when she sings 'You said I must eat so many lemons...' it shows her eating lemons. It also comforts to his theory of having a balance between narrative and performance, as there is a definite narrative in the video, and it also contains clips of Kate Nash staring directly into the camera breaking the fourth wall, and singing. Breaking the fourth wall also creates a stronger link between the audience and character. There are also a lot of symbolism throughout the video which foreshadows the relationship slowly breaking.
