Music videos.......

 One Direction- You And I

Overall the music video itself looks quite simple made in a simple setting, it somehow remind me of brighton beach, the setting however is made to look isolated to match the songs slow pace and make it seem more dramatic. It also then helps keep the focus on the narrators. I wouldn't say that this is a performance video, as no one plays musical instruments, however it isn't really a narrative video either as there is no main story in the video. I personally just found the opening few seconds of the video amazing, as the editing was done brilliantly done the transition from one member of the boyband to the next was amazingly smooth their positioning was perfect and the lighting and their clothes were the same, keeping the flow and continuity of the entire video. The entire music video was made in one shot, which goes against a lot of forms and conventions within music videos, as most music videos have multiple different shots in different angles, in order to make it seem more interesting. I personally think that the simplicity of having the entire video filmed in one shot helps its continuity and also makes it stand out from other music videos as it stands out more this way. the music video is very performance based as there is no main narrative and most of the video is just lip-syncing with close-up shots of the band members, adhering to Dyer's theory of creating a star image of the band. It does however go against andrew Goodwin's theory as he believes there should be a balance between narrative and performance in order to create a successful music video.
